Pre-Weekend Rumblings

To start off, congratulations to Scott Gomez for bagging his first goal in 370 days last night. Ladies and gentlemen, miracles are possible. The greatest tweet from Gomez's goal last night was the following: " *ALERT* Scott Gomez has scored. Time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors."

- Scott Gomez gave an interview this week saying that Andrei Kostitsyn is the funniest and most liked player in the Canadiens locker room. Habs management continues to work towards an extension with him, however they are still exploring trade options as an extension is not imminent.
- The Nashville Predators and Vancouver Canucks are discussing Ryan Suter possibilities.
- The Dallas Stars who are only 2 points out of 8th place are talking with the Anaheim Ducks regarding one of their big-3.
  • The Boston Bruins are trying to move some salary so that a run at Jeff Carter is possible. The cap space that the B's currently have is not enough to take on Carter's salary.
  • The Habs are 9 points out of a playoff spot and if they keep winning, everyone knows that nobody will ever give up in Montreal. They know that its not over 'till its over.
  • Habs still talking with Blue Jackets and Ducks.
  • Leafs in big on Bobby Ryan and JVR for Schenn deal getting closer.
  • The Minnesota Wild have let teams know that Dany Heatly is available.
  • I have received confirmation that James Van Riemsdyk will be dealt before deadline day unless something dramatic happens.

  1. The Predators rumor is complete and total BS!! No way the Predators trade Suter for picks and prospects. If they did they might as well trade Weber away too because they would have 0 chance of re-signing him. Suter has never said that he was for sure going to test FA on July 1. All he has said was that he would not sign prior to the deadline.

  2. Dude, the don't have the money to re-sign Suter and Weber. They will choose Weber over Suter. Getting picks and prospects would be a good deal for the Preds

  3. Dude,

If they trade Suter now for picks and prospects, they will be giving up on the rest of this season. He is to valuable to this team to just get picks and prospects. The move would not play well with the fans or the rest of the locker room. What kind of message does that send?

I never said that NSH will or can re-sign both. The Preds might pick Weber over Suter but if you trade Suter now you might as well trade Weber too. With him being a UFA what can you really expect? He has already said he would re-sign prior to the deadline so why would any other team think they could get him re-signed prior to July 1? Unless you are able to trade Suter for something that will help right now then it is not worth it.

Right now the Preds are in 5th place and only lke 6 points out of 1st place in the Central. They need Suter to have any chance of making a run this year. You can always trade Suter during the offseason and get what you can for him or work a sign and trade deal.

  4. How legitimate can you be when you don't even know the Cap situation of Boston. They have plenty of Cap space to take on Carter without clearing any salary

  5. The Predators Ownership Group and David Poile have said over and over that the days of them being a salary cap floor team are over. They will have the money to resign both Suter and Weber and maybe pick up another player down the road.

Secondly, why would the Predators trade away Suter to another powerhouse team in the West? The Canucks knocked them out of the playoffs last year and have the real possibility of facing them again this year in the playoffs. The Preds have a real shot at making the Conference or even Stanley Cup finals this year and trading Suter at all would take them out of contention. The Predators are a team that is buying, not selling. David Poile would be an idiot if he DID trade Suter. If the guy walks at the end of the season then thats what happens, but when your team is in a great spot for the playoffs and a deep run, you dont trade away your second best defenseman for anything short of a 40+ goal scorer.

And why does everyone think that Suter wants to get out of Nashville so badly? Whether people want to admit it or not, Nashville is better than a large majority of the teams and have been for several years now. His chances of winning there are better than just about anywhere else. If they could just get a goal scorer I think they could be a lock for the Western Finals.

  6. Ya but if Boston goes after Carter, they won't be able to re-sign anyone at the end of the year... You guys don't use your brains...

  7. All of you are extremely overvaluing Ryan Suter. Yes, Suter is an All-Star defenseman. But to say "you dont trade away your second best defenseman for anything short of a 40+ goal scorer" is insane. My friend, Suter is a UFA! He is not worth a 40 goal scorer when signed let alone when he is worth a UFA. The Montreal Canadiens are preparing an offer for Suter and Tomas Plekanec is the centrepiece of the deal. Plekanec has never scored 30 goals. AND the Habs are proposing a sign and trade deal - nothing less. I am told that it is Plekanec and a 1st rounder (2013) in exchange for a SIGNED Ryan Suter.

Boston cannot take on Carter's deal due to the fact that many Bruins are due for new contracts after the season. Tuukka Rask is due for a huge raise, Boychuck, Thornton, and Kelly are UFAs. They also have 2 RFAs. They need to clear cap first.

  8. I dont even think a signed Suter is worth Plek and a 1st to be honest
